Resurgence of Times Lost

Ch. 18

Surprise!

They flew over the desert following the road looking for any homes that they could find to help them with directions

“So if we are going to land at someone's home won't they be surprised to see us we are dragons after all” Tamenth said

“That is true but they are our best bet for trying to figure out where we are are” John said

“Alright but I don't want to get captured by dragon hunters again” Tamenth said

“We should be fine” John said

“That's what you said last time” Tamenth said

“Well we aren't in any big places we are in the middle of a desert in fact I honestly don't think anyone will know about us” John said

“Ok just don't let us get captured again I don't think they will be so kind” Tamenth said

“I won't from now on I will be far more aware of who is around don't worry” John said

“Ok good” Tamenth said

They continued flying in silence making sure to follow the road as they went over the desert eventually John spotted a car going in the same direction as them

“Look down there” John said

“I see it” Tamenth said

“Let's go ask for directions” John said

“Alright” Tamenth said as they started flying down

This person is going to freak out John thought to Roluth
Yes they are but be careful they might have a weapon Roluth said
We will be John said as they swooped over the car causing it to stop and the person inside to look at them in surprise and stop his car
They landed and the person got out of his car

“I hope your not going to hurt me” He said standing next to his car no doubt to be able to make a quick escape

“Not at all” John said

“Ok good where did you come from?” He asked obviously surprised by the fact that he was talking to a dragon

“Well we just escaped from dragon hunters” John said

“Dragon Hunters? Were you percance held in the convoy of armoured vehicles that just went by?” He asked

“If you mean the one with four armoured cars and a armoured van then yes” John said

“I hope you didn't kill too many them during your escape” He said seeing the blood on Tamenth

“Only one and that was on accident” John said not being entirely truthful

“Oh ok” He said obviously a little more scared

“So can you tell us where we are?” John asked

So the person said where they were

“Thanks” John said

“Yeah of course it's just really cool to speak to a dragon” He said

“Well then congrats just please don't tell anyone about us” John said

“Ok I won't I promise” He said

“Alright, good, well bye” John said as he and Tamenth jumped into the sky the man watching them as they flew off

“I'm thirsty where can we get water?” Tamenth asked

“Well based on the position of the sun that way” John said pointing with a talon towards the desert and with that they turned away from the road heading to the nearest stretch of forest and they flew in silence until they spotted it

“Let's go find a river” Tamenth said

“Yep that's why we came over here” John said wanting to wash the sand out his scales (if you are a dragon you know how uncomfortable sand can be when it gets lodged under your scales)

“This forest seems a little familiar” Tamenth said

“What do you mean?” John asked him

“I don't know it just feels like I have been here before” Tamenth said

“Hmm well there is a river over there” John said seeing the water through the treetops

“Yeah let's go over there” Tamenth said starting his descent

They glided to the tops of the trees and landed climbing down them due to a lack of openings in the trees and they reached the ground with the river next to them

“I know i've been here befo-” Tamenths eyes suddenly flew open

“What is it?” John asked him seeing his expression

“This was where the wolf pack attacked us” Tamenth said

“You mean you and your sister?” John asked him

“Yes we were right here and I swam the river and she ran in that direction” he said pointing with a talon

“So you know where you are now?” John asked him

“Yes i'm pretty sure do you still think we should go to where that man lives?” Tamenth asked him

“Yes we should” John said

“Alright but first how about we get the sand out of our scales” Tamenth said

“Yes lets its beggining to get very irritating” John said

“Beginning?” Tamenth asked causing John to laugh

“Yes true it has been for a while but let's stop talking and get in the water to wash the sand out of our scales” John said

They proceeded to jump in the water and swam around finding a strong current in the center that John then exploited to allow himself to float with the river by spreading his wings and just relaxing seeing Tamenth do the same they floated like this for a while as they let the river carry them downstream
They continued like this for a while until John started to realize that he was getting sleepy

“We should get out of the river before we fall asleep” John said

“Wha- but it's so comfortable and relaxing” A half asleep Tamenth said

“Yeah we need to get out before you fall asleep” John said

“Ok fine” Tamenth said

They then swam to the bank and got out of the river

“So where should we sleep?” Tamenth asked seeming a little more awake

“I don't know you have been a dragon your whole life where do you think we should go?” John asked Tamenth

“Umm we could go sleep in a tree” Tamenth said

“Ok if you think that would be a good idea then let's go find one that will be able to support both of our weight” John said

They then proceeded to start walking through the forest as the light faded from the sky however John noticed that he had no trouble seeing even though it was a half moon finding it interesting and looking around he saw a large tree sitting in the woods

“Big brother?” Tamenth said

“Yes?” John said

“I'm really hungry could we hunt before going to bed?” Tamenth asked

“Well it's dark and-” John said getting cut off

“The dark doesn't bother me and i'm really hungry please can we go hunt something?” He asked

“Well yeah ok sure” John said

“Yay ok let's go” Tamenth said

They then proceeded to walk through the forest trying to pick up any scents that could lead them to prey walking around trees. John noticed that in the distance there was a mountain range and he could feel a cool refreshing breeze over his scales as he walked
They continued to walk eventually finding a scent of deer and they automatically turned to follow it walking down the trail

“The night is a great time to hunt since we can see fine and most animals that we hunt can’t” Tamenth said breaking Johns concentration

“Yeah I see that” John said

“Its also nice to take a stroll with the moonlight on your scales” Tamenth said

“Yeah I can understand that” John said feeling the comforting feeling of the moon above him as if he could stay out here forever

But I can't I need to get back to my family John thought
But what if I did stay out here just me and Tamenth He then though
Hey im supposed to be the voice in your head why are you arguing with yourself? Roluth asked
I don't know I guess i'm just kind of conflicted John said
Well keep your head on we can't afford distraction now Roluth said
Any major reasons why? John asked
Well lets see the government knows about you, dragon hunters are going to take more of an interest in you since you destroyed an entire convoy, and oh yeah you need to help Tamenth figure out if his sister is still alive Roluth said
Yeah I guess you're right it's just last week I was a normal everyday teenager and now i'm a dragon that is involved in all sorts of things, I never asked for this John said
But it happened and there must be a reason why so lets keep going and see if we can get any answers Roluth said
Yeah I guess you're right it's just a little overwhelming John said
Yes it is and i'm pretty sure that is why you were chosen for this because you are able to handle it better than most Roluth said
You're right most people probably wouldn't have been able to get as far as me John said feeling better
Yes exactly so keep going Roluth said
Thank you Roluth John said
Of course Roluth said
Suddenly John picked up a scent that he didn't recognize it was like tamenths but different in a way that John couldn't quite figure out

“Do you smell that?” Tamenth asked him

“Yes I do it smells like a dragon” John said

“It’s familiar almost like I know it” Tamenth said

“Is it your sister?” John asked not thinking they could have possibly stumbled upon her

“I think so” Tamenth said looking excited

“Really?” John asked

“Yeah it this way” Tamenth said pointing with his snout as they started walking

Do you think we could have stumbled upon his sister? John asked Roluth
You did float in that river for a good 3 hours Roluth said
Really it didn't feel that long John said
Well you were not really in a position to keep track of time Roluth said
Yeah you're right John said remembering how he had felt while in the river
They continued walking through the forest as John’s thoughts continued spinning they continued walking through the forest following the scent of the dragoness

“I can't wait to see my sister again” Tamenth said

“I am glad you are happy but it might not be your sister” John said

“I know my sister's scent we spent 4 years together” Tamenth said

“Ok sorry lets keep going and find her” John said

They continued walking and following her scent until John saw a glow through the trees

“What's that?” he said

“I don't know but my sister's scent leads to it so let's see” Tamenth said

“Okay lets just be careful” John said following Tamenth as he walked towards the glow

They exited the undergrowth seeing a large house in a clearing and listening John heard the sound of a voice as well as occasional growls

“That's her!” Tamenth said very excited

“But what is this house?” John asked

“I don't know I haven't seen it before but she is inside let's jump over the fence” Tamenth said

“Are you sure that's a good idea” John asked

“Oh what happened to my big strong big brother” Tamenth said

“Well I think caution would be useful in this situation” John said

“There is a dragon in there we will be safe and does that sound like a dragon in pain or suffering?” Tamenth asked

“Well no” John said hearing more happy yelps from the other side of the fence

“Exactly so let's go” Tamenth said running at the fence John quickly deciding that it was probably safe and running after him they sprinted at the last stretch and glided over the fence making sure to not damage it
John took a quick survey of the area seeing a large grassy field with ferns and other bushes as well as a cemented area and a pool with his survey complete he looked over at the group that was now staring at them comprised of a man who appeared to be in his 80’s as well as a woman who appeared to be about the same age and as they had suspected he saw a black dragon standing with them who appeared to be about the same size as Tamenth if not a little bigger

“Where did you come from?” The man asked surprised

“We just escaped dragon hunters” John said

“What you can talk?” He said even more surprised

“Just me it's kind of a long story” John said

“Oh good I was worried that kelly was joking with me these past 3 years” He said

“Kelly?” John said

“Yeah I named her that with her permission of course when she came here” The man said

“Who are you?” The black dragoness named kelly asked

“Are you my sister?” Tamenth asked

“I don't think so the last member of my family died 4 years ago” She said

“It is you!” Tamenth said bounding up to her

“What!” She said

“When the wolves attacked I thought that they got you i'm so happy you're okay” Tamenth said

“The wolves, but, you are my brother! I'm so happy you're alive!” She said happy as she bounded up to him and they nuzzled each other in happiness

“What is going on here?” the woman asked

“I'm pretty sure the green dragon is Kelly's brother” The man said

“What about the one that can speak though?” She asked

“I don't know” He said

“I'm just here with my adopted brother” John said

“Oh so you're with him and neither of you want to cause any trouble?” He asked

“Nope” John said happy that Tamenth was being reunited with his sister

“What happened to you after we were separated?” Kelly asked

“Well I was out in the wilderness on my own until my big brother came and took me under his wing and fended off dragon hunters” Tamenth said proud of John

“You fended off dragon hunters?” She asked looking in awe

“Yes I did but really it was nothing” John said

“Then he took me to his home with humans I was surprised but it wasn't that bad until he took me to a evil place he calls ‘School’ there were so many humans it was unbelievable” Tamenth said

“You live with large groups of humans?” She asked John

“Yes but not all humans are bad” John said

“I know” She said looking at the man behind her

“Yeah and then he brought people over to his home and showed them that he was a dragon as well as showing them me but one of them named Greg was really nice and he petted me it was the best feeling ever” Tamenth said

“That sounds nice Tommie has pet me before I know it feels really good especially a scratch right behind the ear fans pure bliss” She said

“Yeah and then this person came over called a police who talked to John and then left there was also this device that generated light called a umm”

“TV” John said

“Oh yeah a TV that generates images in light and makes noise out of nowhere” Tamenth said

“Then what?” She asked seeming interested

“Well we got into a vehicle and were taken to this place were they gave us food and cooked it for us” Tamenth said

“That sounds awesome” She said

“Yeah and then we went out into the wilderness and hunted and flew back played in a river but we were surprised by dragon hunters on our return and they tried to kill John’s parents so he had to come back down and they shot us with these guns that made us go to sleep. Then when we woke up we found our wings tails and legs bound but John got us out and then we destroyed all of the vehicles and found you” Tamenth said out of breath

“That is so cool. Thank you for protecting my brother” She said aiming the last one at John

“I just did what was needed of me” John said

“Still thanks” She said

The siblings then walked out to the grassy area and continued to catch up on the four years they had been separated

“So what's the deal with you two?” Tommie asked John

“Oh well we just escaped dragon hunters and he told me about his family and I told him that it was doubtful that his sister was dead. Since she didn't seem like the type to die to a pack of wolves” John said

“Oh so they are siblings I thought so from the way they acted with each other” Tommie said

“Yeah he is incredibly happy to see his sister” John said

“I can tell, i'm glad that I was able to help them get reunited” Tommie said

“Yes I can tell she thinks highly of you” John said

“Oh really well that's nice to hear” Tommie said

“Are they going to be staying?” The woman asked

“I don't know Marcella. Will you two be staying?” Tommie asked

“Probably I think so because Tamenth will probably want to see where his sister has been the past few years” John said

“His name is Tamenth?” Tommie asked

“Yes it is I personally find it interesting that he is the only one here with a draconic name” John said

“Did you give him that name?” Tommie asked

“Yes I did” John said

“So why don't you have a draconic name then?” Tommie asked

“How about we go inside and I can explain about how I have a human name despite being a dragon” John said

“Alright, Kelly were going inside” Tommie said

The three dragons and two humans then walked into the house and into the living room

“Alright now how about you tell us about all the things and adventures the two of you have had” Tommie said sitting down with Kelly curling up next to him resulting in her getting petted as she continued trying to talk to Tamenth

“Well I was not always a dragon” John said getting looks of surprise

“How did you change?” Tommie asked

So John then told him about what he had done since getting turned into a dragon leaving out Roluth as he did when telling anyone about his experiences eventually he finished to two wide eyed humans and one wide eyed dragoness

“Thats incredible” Marcella said

“I don't know how you have managed to handle so much but I am impressed with you” Tommie said

“Well thank you” John said

“Now you two we only have one mattress for Kelly here will you all be fine sharing it?” Marcella asked

“Yep we should be fine” John said after getting affirmatives from the other two

“Alright then since things are set just please don't break anything” Tommie said walking up the stairs

“John I have a question for you” Kelly said

“Yes what is it?” John asked

“Could you be my brother too?”

“Of course i’m Tamenths and your his sister so I am automatically your big brother” John said

“That’s awesome thank you!” She said jumping up to him and curling her neck around his as he returned the gesture they then got onto the mattress and settled with kelly and Tamenth curled up next to each other and John curled around both of them

“Good night” Kelly said with a yawn

“Good night” Tamenth said nuzzling his sister

“Sleep well” John said and with that they drifted into sleep
